Salamanca Roman is a decorative typeface inspired by the striking wall typography found in the Spanish city of Salamanca, particularly on the official buildings and universities. The letters, painted directly on the walls, were ornamental, irregular, and full of character, and it was during a trip in the mid-1990s that these forms first caught the designer’s attention. The first version of the font appeared in 1994 under the name Salamanca Official, later refined and released as Salamanca TF. Almost three decades later, in 2023, the typeface was reworked once again to improve its usability.
The latest release, Salamanca TF Roman, offers a more balanced and regular “normal set” alongside graceful variations available through alternates and swashes, allowing for decorative and customized typographic effects. With OpenType features and an extensive glyph palette, Salamanca Roman is a fun and versatile display typeface that makes it easy to create unique and expressive typographic compositions.
